On the Road | Nice-Monaco-Lake Como 2022

After three weeks of intense photography workshops across Italy, I found solace in the final three weeks of my Italian adventure. This leg of the journey was mine to craft, with no schedule other than the one I made for myself. It all began in the charming city of Nice, France, where I spent two days soaking in the beauty of the French Riviera before heading to Monaco for the event I’d dreamed about for years—the Monaco Grand Prix.

Nice | The Charm of the French Riviera

Nice was everything I imagined it to be—charming, luxurious, and full of life. Strolling through the city, I marveled at the architectural elegance and the contrast of sleek, modern buildings and historical landmarks. Gardens, both on the ground and on rooftops, added a touch of nature to the otherwise glamorous urban landscape. It was a city of high-end cars, cafés with patrons enjoying espresso, and coastal views that could take anyone's breath away.

During my time in Nice, I found myself wandering through streets lined with palm trees, the air fragrant with the Mediterranean, and the sound of the sea gently meeting the shore. As a photographer, every corner of the city offered something inspiring—whether it was the reflections of yachts in the harbor or the vibrant colors of flowers in unexpected places.

Monaco | Living the Dream at the Grand Prix

After Nice, I made my way to Monaco, fulfilling a lifelong dream. The Monaco Grand Prix, one of the most prestigious events in motorsport, was an experience I’ll never forget. I had the incredible opportunity to stay at the Fairmont Monte Carlo, located right at the iconic hairpin turn. It was the perfect place to watch practice and qualifying from the comfort of hospitality suites that gave me an unbeatable view of the track.

Monaco itself was just as extravagant as I had imagined—audacious yet stunning. From the million-dollar yachts in the harbor to the luxury cars cruising the streets, every inch of Monaco exuded wealth and grandeur. I wandered through Casino Square, where the world’s elite stood beside their high-end cars, and soaked in the energy of this incredible city. It was here that I purchased my first Leica Camera, the M11. This camera, with its timeless design and meticulous craftsmanship, was a significant investment and a perfect way to capture the moments that would make up the end of my journey. The M11 requires patience and a learning curve, but once mastered, it produces breathtaking images.

Race day was nothing short of thrilling. The rain added an extra challenge for the drivers, and my Ferrari favorites struggled to find their rhythm, but that didn’t diminish the excitement of watching the race unfold. I was fortunate to watch it from the start-finish line, where the roar of the engines and the speed of the cars left me in awe. After the race, I walked the track, seeing it from a perspective I never thought I would get to experience. The tunnel, the hairpin, and the stunning backdrop of Monte Carlo were sights that will stay with me forever.

Milan | A Moment of Quiet Reflection

After the buzz of Monaco, I headed to Milan for a much-needed recharge. Milan, with its modern elegance and rich cultural history, provided the perfect contrast to the high-energy atmosphere of Monaco. I spent my days wandering through the streets, sipping coffee at small cafés, and simply enjoying the peaceful rhythm of the city. Milan’s fashion, art, and food scene provided plenty of inspiration, but it was the quiet moments that I cherished most.

Lake Como | The Ultimate Escape

From Milan, I made my way to Menaggio on Lake Como, where I spent the next 10 days unwinding and exploring one of the most serene places I’ve ever visited. Lake Como is a dream, with its crystal-clear waters, charming towns, and dramatic mountain views. I spent my days taking leisurely walks around Menaggio, exploring the local area, and indulging in delicious meals at the town’s renowned restaurants.

I also took a trip to Lugano, just across the border in Switzerland, where I experienced a beautiful blend of Italian and Swiss cultures. The days here were slow, the pace relaxed, and the scenery unmatched. My stay at the Grand Victoria, a stunning lakeside hotel, was the perfect place to unwind and reflect on my journey.

Lake Como offered the peace and quiet I had been craving, allowing me to reconnect with myself and my photography. It was here that I could pause, breathe, and appreciate the beauty around me in a way that only the calm of nature can inspire.

A Journey of a Lifetime

As my adventure through Nice, Monaco, Milan, and Lake Como came to an end, I felt a deep sense of fulfillment. Each place offered its own unique experience, from the luxury and excitement of Monaco to the tranquil beauty of Lake Como. It was a journey that allowed me to grow, both as a photographer and as a person. The memories I created—whether it was capturing the beauty of the French Riviera or watching the cars race in Monaco—will stay with me forever. This journey was one I will always cherish, and the Leica M11, now filled with stunning shots, will be a reminder of the incredible experiences that made this adventure truly unforgettable.
